About Us The Smithee Associates are individuals who collaborate on a wide range of projects about international and higher education. Associates may refer, consult, assist, or provide feedback and guidance. Michael Smithee, President A graduate of Florida State University (BA, MA) and Syracuse University (EdD) has focused his efforts on the practice of international relations and education in secondary schools, colleges and universities, and in the community. As a student he served as president of the International Student Association at Florida State University. In his professional career he has served as president of Phi Beta Delta, International Honor Society, as president of the International Center of Syracuse, and several positions in NAFSA including Board of Directors.
He has lived in France and Hawaii, and has visited Albania, England, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Taiwan. In addition, he has lived in more than nine U.S. states and 14 U.S. cities (all before the age of 21), and attended 12 different schools from K-12. That puts an interesting perspective on his past 29 years in Syracuse.
Smithee Associates has been operating for many years, but since January 2006 has become of full-time operation of Michael Smithee, president. Recent Associates Patrica A. Collaborated on the visit of Tottori University of Japan faculty and staff for the purpose of investigating aspects of peer education in a U.S. university. Stacey Lane Tice, Ph.D. (Education, Syracuse University), Associate Dean of the Graduate School, Syracuse University. Collaborated on Best Practices for "International Students: Strengthening a Critical Resource," Chapter 2: Intercultural Adjustment and Learning, in a forth coming volume on international students in higher education to be published by the American Council on Education and Praeger Publishers. Marion Boultbee, Ed.D. (International Education Development, Teachers College, Columbia University), Director, International Office, Columbia Teacher's College. Referred and collaborated on Creating an Intensive Learning and Support Environment for International and Domestic Students: A Symposium Presentation to Tottori University, Tottori, Japan. Sidney "Skip" Greenblatt, M.A. (Sociology) Adjunct Professor of Sociology and Senior International Advisor, retired at Syracuse University. Co-author of U.S. Classroom Culture. Rika Kojima McKenna M.A. (International Relations) Specialist in information technology and Japanese culture, formerly at Syracuse University. Provides resources and guidance in preparation for a variety of projects, including the Tottori Symposium. Jeannette Smithee M.S. (Information and Library Science), Director of Staff Development Programs, SEFLIN (Southeast Florida Information Network). Provides support, guidance, and resources for a variety of projects. |
